Toddlers are not the only ones we need to be concerned about when around a swimming pool.

ACKSON — An 8-year-old girl was in critical condition after nearly drowning Saturday in a swimming pool, police said.

The child, whose family lives in Jersey City, was attending a graduation party at a house on Palamino Drive when she went swimming, Sgt. Chris Parise said.

Officers were notified around 6:08 p.m. that the girl was found at the bottom of the pool unconscious, Parise said. Party attendees started CPR, but officers and members of Jackson First Aid took over.

They took her to CentraState Medical Center in Freehold, where she was listed in critical condition. She was then relocated to Saint Peter’s University Hospital in New Brunswick.

A spokesperson at Saint Peter’s University Hospital did not immediately respond to a call seeking information.
