Are you looking forward to opening up your pool? You have waited patiently during the winter months and you have come to this exciting moment of opening the covers and getting back into the pool. Before you do, think about the following tips so that you can avoid frustration.
1. Clean the Pool Cover
First of all, you will have to think about cleaning the pool cover. But before that, you should be careful to drain water as much as you can. To do that, you can keep the cover pump on a cover and let it do the job. You can also blow or sweep all the leaves that have fallen on top of your cover. Then you can make sure that you don’t have any debris in the water that you swim.
2. Increase the Water Level
Once you complete the cleaning job, go ahead and raise the water level until it comes back to normal. You can use a garden hose to get it done.
3. Reconnect All Pool Equipment
As the next step, you will have to reconnect all of the pool equipment that you have unplugged. This includes the heater, filter and pool pump. In the meantime, take the necessary steps in order to remove all the winterizing plugs from the pool.
4. Turn on All Pool Equipment for a Test Run
After connecting all pool equipment, you will have to turn them on and do a test run. This includes the pool filtration and pool circulation systems. You should be careful to open the air relief valve of your pool so that you can make sure that the entire system is functioning properly.
5. Check Your Pools’ Chemistry
Check the Chlorine level, Total Alkalinity, and pH level in your pool. Purchase a test kit for doing this if you don’t already have one. Here are the ideal levels for these items:
Chlorine: 2.1 to 4.1 ppm
pH: 7.3 to 7.7
Total Alkalinity: 80 to 125 ppm
6. Run the Filtration System Overnight
Next, run the pool filtration system overnight. This will remove all dirt particles, including algae, debris, dirt and bacteria from the pool so that a clean environment is offered to you for spending time in the pool.
7. Insure That Your Pools’ Removable Pool Fence Is Safe and Secure
Last, but most importantly, check your pools’ removable pool fence to ensure that it’s properly installed and working properly. Ensure that all of the poles, the fence itself, and the gates are securely fastened and working properly. Make sure that anyone that should not be in the pool by themselves are unable to access the pool… this is critically important!
